Internode has brought its NakedUltra ADSL2+ plans back into its product suite. Internode has active DSLAMs (ADSL2+ or Naked DSL equipment) in about 150 phone exchanges throughout Australia. The NakedUltra plans are provided through Optus DSLAMs and extend Internode’s Naked DSL offering by about 200 exchanges.

Far more customers now have access to Naked DSL through Internode!

The other really positive news is that the NakedUltra plans are far more competitive in pricing and download allowance than when Internode last sold them. The entry level plans are exactly the same in pricing and download allowance as Internode’s NakedExtreme plans, which are provide through Internode DSLAMs:

• $49.95 for 10GB of downloads per month
• $59.95 for 30GB of downloads per month

For $59.95 per month Internode is also providing EasyNaked on Optus DSLAMs with 70GB of data allowance. The EasyNaked plans count uploads and downloads in the data allowance. If you apply for EasyNaked, Internode will attempt to connect you to one of their own DSLAMs in the first instance. If Internode is not available in that exchange or is out of ports, then they will attempt to connect you via the Optus DSLAM.

The higher NakedUltra plans are as follows:

• $69.95 for 40GB of downloads per month
• $79.95 for 50GB of downloads per month
• $89.95 for 60GB of downloads per month
• $129.95 for 100GB of downloads per month

Internode has made its “Easy Naked” Naked DSL plan more attractive by dropping the price by $10 and increasing the data allowance to 70GB. The new price for Easy Naked is $59.95 per month.

It’s important to note that the data allowance on the Easy Naked plan includes both uploads and downloads. All other Internode Naked DSL plans only count downloads as part of the data allowance. Like all Internode Naked DSL plans, the Easy Naked data allowance can be used at any time of the day or night (no peak or off peak).

So if you compare the other Naked DSL plans that Internode has available at $59.95 per month, you’ll see that the Easy Naked plan is very good value.

1. NakedExtreme ADSL2+: For $59.95 per month you get 30GB of downloads.

2. NakedUltra ADSL2+: For $59.95 per month you get 30GB of downloads.

So unless you need a significant amount of uploads, the Easy Naked plan will likely be better value for you if $59.95 fits your budget.

Internode has started to launch their expanded Naked DSL and ADSL2+ services in Tasmania. About 6 months ago they announced the building of their own ADSL2+ DSLAM equipment in about 10 new exchanges throughout Tasmania. This week the first of these new exchanges which can supply Internode Naked DSL were made available.

There are none of the tricky peak or off peak times to worry about when you can use your data. Uploads and downloads are counted in the allowance which will suit most internet users fine. If Internode can deliver ADSL2+ Extreme over their own network they will, otherwise you get 1500/256k ADSL.

It’s an easy proposition – you sign up and get fast or faster internet with a lot of data for $49.95 per month. Easy.

Internode has now released Easy Naked DSL Broadband – with the same idea of making Naked DSL plans easy to understand. The plan is $59.95 per month and includes 70GB of data. This includes both uploads and downloads and there is no peak and off-peak period. For the same price, the Internode Naked Extreme ADSL2+ gives 30GB of down loads only.

Internode has just made Naked DSL and ADSL2+ available in Gungahlin in the ACT. What is unusual about this update is that Gungahlin is actually a sub-exchange as part of the Crace exchange.

With the Internode release of Naked DSL and ADSL2+ service in Gungahlin, residents finally have the chance to get something better than sub-standard broadband from this sub-exchange. Internode Naked DSL starts at $49.95 per month with no extra line rental payments. It also includes a free NodePhone2VoIP account with $10 of credit each month.

Internode ADSL2+ starts at $39.95 per month, but you do have to pay the line rental, which is usually around $30 per month. Unless you have a really compelling reason to keep paying line rental, then we recommend going Naked.

We were alerted to issues in the Crace exchange when a Naked DSL customer came to us for advice in regard to relocating to Palmerston, which falls within the Crace exchange boundaries. We discovered they were connected to the Gungahlin sub exchange and that no Naked DSL or ADSL2+ was available at that exchange.

A quick look at the maps of the area showed that  Palmerston, Gungahlin, Amaroo and other suburbs were all so far from the Crace exchange that they had to be serviced by the Gungahlin sub-exchange.

Brooklyn Park, just outside of the Adelaide CBD, is one of the more interesting exchanges in Australia. The exchange itself probably isn’t that interesting to look at, but the exchange boundaries are quite unusual. The Brooklyn Park exchange (Code: AASS) is about 90% covered by the Adelaide Airport!

The Sydney Airport is covered by the Mascot exchange but also includes a significant residential and business area within the exchange. Likewise the Tullamarine exchange in Melbourne is not just the airport!

Not even the whole of Brooklyn Park is included in this exchange – just a part of it. Sir Donald Bradman Drive and some streets next to it are part of this exchange. The rest of Brooklyn Park and most of the surrounding suburbs are included in the massive West Adelaide exchange.

But for residents and businesses connected to the Brooklyn Park exchange, this is great news. Internode are building a DSLAM there which will enable Naked DSL and ADSL2+. There are presently no Naked DSL services available in the area and only ADSL2+ through the expensive Telstra network.

Naked DSL in Ivanhoe looks set to become a reality in December 2009! iinet and Internode are both currently building DSLAMs in the Ivanhoe exchange, which will enable the first non-Telstra based DSL services in the area. Bring on cheaper prices and faster broadband speeds!

Once Naked DSL is made available, residents of Ivanhoe will be able to ditch their line rental and enjoy the benefits of Naked DSL. iinet currently has projected this to be ready within the first week of December.

iinet and Internode both offer Naked DSL from just $49.95 per month. This service includes a free VoIP account for making and receiving phone calls. And of course there are no more line rental payments! If you live in Ivanhoe and really want to maintain your line rental, then you can get ADSL2+ at far cheaper prices than what are currently available.

Internode doesn’t have a scheduled release date in Ivanhoe yet, but if you fill in your details below, we’ll notify you as soon as iinet and Internode are ready to go in Ivanhoe!

Internode have today announced some significant increases to their data allowances! The PPC-1 undersea cable to Guam has improved Australia’s internet connections to the US and the rest of the world, thus making bandwidth cheaper.

New Internode Naked DSL Plans

For the Naked DSL plans, all the plans from $59.95 and above have received a data boost. Existing customers on most plans will need to request a plan change in order to receive the increased allowance from the beginning of their next billing cycle.

The $49.95 Naked DSL plan still comes with 5GB of downloads. The new Internode Naked DSL plans are:

• $59.95 plan now has 20GB of downloads per month (was 10GB)
• $69.95 plan now has 35GB of downloads per month (was 25GB)
• NEW $79.95 plan  has 50GB of downloads per month ($84.95 had 40GB)
• NEW $109.95 plan has 75GB of downloads per month ($129.95 had 80GB)
• $139.95 plan has 100GB of downloads per month (was $159)

We really like the increase to 20GB on the $59.95 plan – this is a really popular price point and with twice the download limit will be a really popular plan. We also like having a $79.95 plan instead of $84.95 and with 50GB of downloads it’s considerably better value.

Bye Bye Optus and NakedUltra

The other big change for Naked DSL from Internode is that they are no longer offering NakedUltra plans. These were the Internode Naked DSL plans via the Optus network. We also like this move – there wasn’t much value in the Internode Ultra plans. There are a lot of providers using the Optus network and Internode was struggling to offer much value in this space.

So whilst not using the Optus network limits Internode’s reach somewhat, it is far less confusing having only one set of Naked DSL plans now.

Internode Easy Broadband Plan

The updated Internode Easy plan is also an excellent option if you can’t get Naked DSL. It’s just had a data quota boost to 50GB and is only $49.95 per month. You do need to have a line rental service with this plan ($29.95 per month) and both uploads and downloads are counted. But it will give you access to ADSL2+ Extreme broadband where it is available and if not, then you’ll get 1500k ADSL download speeds.

It’s good to see an ISP actually keeping it simple for customers. Usually we only see more plans with more options. Internode is an ISP with a difference – and it shows in what they do.
