It’s “Nude DSL” Apparently

CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA - SEPTEMBER 14: Kevin Rudd speaks to Stephen Conroy in a group photo, as the Australian Labor Pary is sworn in by Governor-General Quentin Bryce on September 14, 2010 in Canberra, Australia. The Labor party secured minority government on September 7, after securing support from a member of the Greens, and three independents, ending 17 days of deadlock after the Australian federal election. I’m not sure if it was a slip of the tongue or a case of an uninformed politician who is running the country’s broadband department. If it’s the latter, then it’s a real worry!

In a Senate Estimates Committe hearing this week Senator Stephen Conroy referred to Naked DSL as “Nude DSL”. In the couple of years we’ve run this website we’ve had people call it Naked DSL, Naked ADSL, Naked Broadband, Naked ADSL2+ and Naked Internet. But I don’t think anyone has ever confused the word Naked for ‘Nude”. If it wasn’t so sad, it might actually be funny. Millions of Australians know it’s called Naked DSL and the guy who is running the show doesn’t know a basic, popular broadband term.

For a complete coverage of the incident and a summary of the Senate Estimates Committee hearing into the National Broadband Network, read this article on Delimiter – all the details are there.

I like the picture above – it could the moment when Kevin07 tells Senator Conroy that it’s actually called Naked DSL.
